Can Your Wedding Photographer Plan Your Honeymoon?

Friday, April 30th, 2010

I really want to give my wife credit for this post because she’s been an inspiration over the past few months to me. As most of you know, my brother Patrick (aka Felix @ the Green Well in GR) is getting married on June 5. It’s been an experience to discuss their wedding day details and plans over the past year.

Pat and Ari are in a situation that faces a lot of couples these days – they are paying for their wedding on their own. In their desire to throw a great wedding day party, they have been mentioning not having enough money to take a honeymoon. My wife heard that and went to work.

So what did she do? She went ahead and for Ari’s first shower contacted all the ladies who would be in attendance and see if they would be interested in contributing to their “honeymoon” fund instead of giving a typical wedding shower gift. She had over half of my family contribute and then scoured the internet for great deals for an early June honeymoon.

Here is what she came up with:

She did such an amazing job putting it together, not letting on that we were planning anything and then packaging it so well at the shower. Ari had a different package to open for each part of the gift.

So, do you think a wedding photographer could plan your honeymoon? Based on this trip, I think we could handle it.

Michigan Wedding Photography | Dan + Caitlin at St. George Banquet Center

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Dan and Caitlin’s wedding day was nothing short of spectacular. Just about a week before the wedding I realized that Caitlin’s mom, Carol, is a wedding and event designer on the east side of Michigan (she’s at Gerych’s in Fenton), so I knew she was going to go all out for her youngest daughter.

These two met while at Michigan Tech and if you’d like to know their story, be sure to visit their wedding website where Dan told everyone about how they met. They are both now done with school and have moved to Castle Rock, Colorado where Caitlin is a teacher and Dan is an environmental engineer.

We had such a great time getting to know their families and friends and we feel the images from their wedding day will be in our portfolio for a long, long time. The ceremony was held at Westview Christian Reformed Church where Dan grew up going to church and the reception was held at St. George Banquet and Conference Center in downtown Grand Rapids. Between the ceremony and reception we headed down to Founder’s Brewery because of Dan and Caitlin’s fond memories of a similar brewery in Houghton where they always hung out together. Flowers and decor was designed by Carol and created by a good friend of hers Colleen Carr at Beautiful Events in Brighton, MI and music was provided by my good friend Rich Kosty of Encore Music.

Design 1 on Wilson in Grandville did a great job on the ladies’ hair.

One of my favorite images I’ve taken. A real moment with mother and daughter – it doesn’t get much better than this…

I always love the moment coming right out of the ceremony – so intimate and full of emotion.

A little Puma action for all the guys was a great touch as well!

You never know where you’ll find a spot for a great portrait. How about out in the middle of Grandville Ave in front of Founder’s? Sounds good to me!

The details were amazing, all the way down to the place cards at the head table.

Caitlin’s dad put together a slideshow just for her as they danced together. It was a great touch!

Dan lost his mom last year, so his first dance was with Grandma – I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.

The candy bar was a huge hit – I love the handmade sign thanking everyone for coming!
