Let the Market Decide
After 18 years as a photographer and 15+ years watching audiences respond to photographs online, I am still surprised which photos connect most with those viewing them.
Many times, a client believes, “this is THE photo, our market is going to love it!” and it doesn’t connect at all. Other times clients run photos that I didn’t think would connect with an audience at all and BAM, the image takes off and reaches all kinds of people.
We have to let the market decide what the market wants when it comes to the photo and video we are creating for our brands.
For example, as a test, I run ads with multiple photos. A recent ad included 10 different images, eight of which I loved and two of which I included simply to test (but I didn’t expect them to perform well).
What happened? The images that connect the most are the two that I only included as a test!
Another example was a series of 10 videos I created interviewing event professionals. Out of the 10 videos, 8 videos received about 100-250 views each, 1 received 500+ views and the last video received over 5000+ views. If I had only published three videos, they may have all been a part of the group of eight, and I would have said, "oh videos don't work, why make them...".
If you don’t know what connects with your audience online, you have to start somewhere. To publish different kinds of images, you have to have different kinds of images. If you’d like to get started, we have different options that can meet your needs and help you in the process as you let the market decide what it wants from your business.
