Economic Club of Grand Rapids | Grand Rapids Event Photography
The Economic Club of Grand Rapids, or as it’s better known, “The Econ Club” was founded in 1976 and continues to fulfill its mission of “Growing the Economic Health of the Grand Rapids Metropolitan Area.”
Their events regularly bring together the best and brightest minds from the West Michigan community. The largest crowd this year brought together over 750+ for a lunch event.
Prior to photographing there events, I have to admit that I had only attended one event in 2018. I am amazed at the access attendees have to not only each other, but also the Econ Club board and the keynote speakers themselves.
If you’re looking to network in the Grand Rapids area and want to meet someone, more than likely you’ll find them at the Econ Club at some point throughout the year.
The 2019 schedule of speakers was filled with heavy hitters from the world of economics, start ups, education, marketing, radio and behavioral psychology.
When it comes to keynote speakers, more than likely they’re already comfortable on stage. It’s what they do for a living.
Because of that, our goal is simpler. Our goal is to help them look confident on camera.
This takes time, lots of photographs during their time speaking (do you know what kind of faces people make during a 45 minute speech!) and the willingness to study things like if a speaker favors a side of the crowd, what words does he/she say that makes it look like they’re smiling, etc.
The room at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids is constantly full for not only a great meal, but also great talks from the keynote speakers.
In addition to their keynote schedule throughout the year, the Econ Club also hosts an annual Essay Contest.
The topic for 2019 was “How Might a Renewed Emphasis on Career and Technical Education (CTE) in High School Impact the West Michigan”.
Prizes awarded included $6,000 in winnings, $1500 in gift cards and free YMCA memberships. Winners for 2019 were: Kennedy Southland, Claire Verbrugge and Kiya Benckhuysen.
In addition to the Essay Contest, the Econ Club also awards two Study Abroad Scholarships annually.
If you’re looking for a way to get connected with the Grand Rapids business community, the energy at the Econ Club continues to grow.
I would love to see you attend an event this year.
Or better yet, why not become a member and attend all the events!
I look forward to seeing you at the next event and if you’re interested in having your photo taken with the speaker, just let me know. :-)
