Kevin + Jess | City Flats Wedding in Grand Rapids
We were so excited for Kevin and Jess' Grand Rapids wedding in June. We knew their day was going to be spectacular after their fall engagement photos in Grand Rapids. Jess described their wedding reception plans for CityFlats Hotel and how the ceremony would go at St. Robert's Catholic Church in Ada. The amount of detail and thought that went into their wedding day was wonderful to photograph and it was great to watch Kevin and Jess begin their new life together. The day began with getting ready photos at the church, where we took time to photograph the guys and girls separately. The humidity was high, so we utilized the interior spaces of St. Robert's for the before photos. Then it was time for the ceremony. Kevin's first look at Jess as she came down the aisle was one for the record books. Take a look below and see for yourself. Their ceremony was presided over by Kevin's uncle. Having family be a part of your wedding ceremony is always a wonderful personal touch.
Following extended family photos at the church, it was off to Riverside Park for wedding party photos. The tree cover, the green colors and the riverfront were a beautiful backdrop for the photos. Following that location, we made our way to Ah-nab-awen Park and a view of the city skyline. Not only did we capture photos along the riverfront of downtown, but the Pearl Street Bridge was closed to traffic, so we were able to use the road as a photo location, a first for us on wedding days.
CityFlats took great care of the wedding party and after Kevin and Jess were announced at the reception, they had their first dance as friends and family looked on. The view from the mezzanine at CityFlats is unparalleled by any other Grand Rapids wedding venue. Following a wonderful dinner, toasts were given, one by a cousin of Kevin's who read the speech prepared by his brother, who is currently deployed overseas in the US Military. He was able to make an appearance however, in the form of a cardboard cutout and made his way around the dance floor throughout the evening. Once dancing began, we waited for the "wedding march", a family tradition that involves every guest at the reception. Joy and fun were the emotions felt during their wedding day and we were blessed to be a part of it.
