Andrew + Kerri | Wedding Photos on Lake Michigan
Andrew and Kerri's wedding day was a dream photo day for us. These two had in their mind exactly how they wanted the wedding day to run and how photography would fit into their plan. Andrew, a former Blackhawk helicopter crew chief in the US Army, has a great passion and interest in photography that was developed during his time overseas. For him, outside of marrying Kerri on their wedding day, photography ranked up there fairly high on his priority list. It was funny to realize these two both contacted us separately and neither of them knew it. We received emails from the two about two weeks apart both saying they wanted to set up a meeting to learn more about what we had to offer. We eventually were able to meet during evening hours to discuss their wedding day.
They planned their ceremony at Andrew's father's home on a private lake in Caledonia. It would be a beautiful setting surrounded by friends and family. Their reception would follow at Quail Ridge Golf Club.
As they started discussing what they were looking for with photography, Andrew mentioned wanting to have their "first look" take place on the beach at Lake Michigan. Specifically at PJ Hoffmaster State Park in the morning. As we dove deeper into discussion, we found out their ceremony would not be until 5:30pm in Caledonia and they were hoping for a 10am first look at the beach. They would then be joined by their wedding party on the beach and we would have "location" photos for a couple of hours on Lake Michigan before the sun reached it's noontime high.
So that's exactly what we did. We met these two wonderful people on the beach at Hoffmaster, photographed perhaps my favorite first look, followed by wedding party portraits on the beach.
The interesting part about their day was because of the early photo session, we scheduled a 3 hour break between leaving Hoffmaster and meeting up again at the ceremony site. This allowed everyone to take a break, have a great lunch, get out of their formal attire and simply relax if they wanted to. In fact, we found it to be a great way to re-energize the wedding party after a couple of hours of photography. We would highly suggest any couple planning their wedding consider doing this on their wedding day.
